Dawn-Michelle Baude

I wanted to write my way around the world.

I left my childhood home in Southern Illinois with a sheaf of poems in my bag. First stop: Southern California. Next up, Bisbee (AZ) and the Bay Area, and from there, I ventured throughout the world: overlanding across Africa, exploring archeological sites in the Middle East, visiting the great cities in Asia, tracking vestiges of Early Man in Europe.

Living in Belgium, Lebanon, Italy, twice in Egypt and more than a decade in France stimulated both curiosity and writingfrom Condé Nast features and shorts in three languages, to articles on design and tech in Newsweek International, criticism in Artcritical, and profiles in The European and Art + Auction. Then came a bestselling communications book, more poems, art catalogues, translations, and eventually, award-winning personal essays, fiction, and memoir.

I immerse myself in every writing project I undertakewhether it’s published by the Los Angeles Times, KNPR’s Desert Companion, or French Vogue. I never write anything without giving it my all. I try to live my life that way tooengaged, curious, and open to experience. That’s how discoveries are made.
